This exhibition centers on the concept of Between the Worlds. “Between the worlds” refers to a perceptual state that exists between multiple conditions—between reality and imagination, order and disorder, stability and unease. The artist’s work responds to this state by using visual and spatial language to construct surreal spatial landscapes, transforming inner emotions and perceptions into environments that can be viewed, entered, and experienced.

 

Within this framework, the exhibition presents the artist, Christina Yijia Ren’s ongoing practice from 2018 to 2025, developed through contemporary painting and new media. Anchored by the Between the Worlds series, the exhibition includes concept drawings, canvas and digital paintings, panoramic paintings, panoramic animation, and immersive virtual reality experiences, tracing a creative path from two-dimensional works toward spatial and interactive forms.

 

Throughout this process, painting functions as a continuous visual language across different media and spaces. Images extend from flat surfaces to panoramic views, and from static imagery into time-based forms, gradually evolving into spatial experiences that can be walked through and inhabited. Virtual reality serves as one of the mediums through which painting further unfolds across space, time, and perception.

 

By placing painting, moving image, panoramic works, and virtual reality experiences together, the exhibition presents the artist’s sustained exploration of the relationship between medium and space, while offering viewers multiple ways to enter and engage with the work, forming their own understanding through viewing and experience.
