ABOUT ME
Hello, my name is Christina Yijia Ren, a multimedia artist born in China and currently based in Boston, USA. My practice spans graphic design, animation, illustration, production design, and immersive media. I am drawn to exploring how visual language can shape stories across different forms. I hold a BFA in Media Arts from Northeastern University and an MFA in Film & Media Art from Emerson College.
My artistic path began in 2017 with a focus on graphic design, working on print materials, branding, web and UI design, and commercial video. Over time, my practice expanded to include animation and other forms of visual media. Through both my undergraduate studies and professional experience, I was exposed to many facets of art and design, which gave me a broad foundation and gradually led me toward what excites me most. In graduate school, I deepened my understanding of visual storytelling through collaborations with filmmakers as a production designer, shaping both atmosphere and detail. At the same time, I pursued my own VR installation projects, discovering immersive media as a medium that connects all these interests and allows me to create environments that feel both personal and expansive.
At the heart of everything I do is painting — the simplest and most honest way I first learned to sense and express the world. Even though my practice has grown to include many forms, it all comes from that initial fascination with making images. I am drawn to surreal landscapes, daydreams, and the quiet connections between memory and place. I love road trips and being in nature, as well as exploring new cities and cultures. I also love sitting in front of my computer, turning these experiences into something visible and tangible. My work grows out of curiosity and the joy of learning, always blending traditional craft with new media to create spaces that are both layered and emotionally resonant.
